“Co-created Flowerbed ‘well'” at the Yokohama International Horticultural Expo NTT East
NTT East and its group company, Biostock, will launch the “Co-created Flowerbed ‘well'” project for the “NTT EAST Pavilion” at the 2027 International Horticultural Expo (GREEN×EXPO 2027, or “Yokohama Flower Expo”). This project involves schools, local communities, businesses, and employees in a collaborative effort to create flowerbeds at the venue, with flowers grown and contributed in a relay-style process.
As part of this initiative, in partnership with the City of Yokohama, Yokohama Municipal Minami High School Junior High School, Tokaken, and Gel Flower, an environmental education program themed around a “Yokohama School Lunch Circular Model” is being implemented. Participants will learn about resource circulation and a sustainable society by studying compost made from school lunch food waste. Furthermore, they will design their own flowerbeds, grow flowers using this compost, and have their work displayed at the NTT EAST Pavilion.
On Thursday, October 15, students from Minami High School Junior High School held a presentation to unveil their flowerbed designs.
The flowerbeds will utilize “recycled planters”—containers repurposed from optical closures (housings used for connecting fiber-optic cables).
The event also included the unveiling of these recycled planters and a handover ceremony, during which NTT East presented them to the students.
Reflecting on the project, the students shared comments such as: “Participating in this project has made me really want to go and see the flowerbeds we’ve created in person,” and “I feel a sense of responsibility for growing these flowers, as well as a personal connection—knowing that I’m involved in something truly worthwhile—which makes me look forward to what’s ahead.”
The flowerbed-creation process began in October, with the displays at the NTT EAST Pavilion scheduled for April and July 2027.
