Ishikari City established the “Ishikari Data Center Consortium (Ishikari DCC)” on Tuesday, July 28, in collaboration with data center (DC) operators, power and telecommunications infrastructure providers, and other entities located within the city.
The Ishikari DCC positions local data centers as both “regional computing resources” and “social infrastructure,” aiming for mutual, sustainable growth where data centers work in unison with the community to revitalize the local economy.
Specifically, the consortium will jointly advance studies to strengthen and establish the infrastructure foundations—such as power and telecommunications networks—necessary for data center operations. It will also submit proposals to the national and Hokkaido prefectural governments regarding the utilization of GX (Green Transformation) strategic zones and special economic zone systems, as well as the design of subsidy programs.
Furthermore, by sharing operational challenges and utilizing shared infrastructure, the consortium aims to establish highly competitive data center services and enhance the value of Ishikari data centers through initiatives such as the use of local renewable energy sources.
Participating operators will collaborate to build a rapid and effective disaster prevention system for use during large-scale disasters. Additionally, the consortium will promote the training of necessary technical personnel, facilitate personnel exchanges between data centers, and drive job creation.
Current participating companies include NTT East, NTT-ME, Sakura Internet, Kyocera Communication Systems, Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center No. 1, Flower Communications, Broadband Tower, Tokyu Land Corporation, Ishikari Regional Energy, Riene, and Hokkaido Telecommunication Network.
