Turning Video Data into Business Value NTT docomo Business
NTT docomo Business has released “docomo business SIGN VAaaS,” a video AI platform service that collects, stores, and analyzes video from various devices to accelerate transformation in diverse work environments.
This service collects video from cameras installed in facilities and equipment, as well as from on-site equipment such as robots and drones, and integrates and manages it in an analyzable format. By linking with “docomo business SIGN,” an IoT-oriented NaaS with standard security features, it reduces security risks that have been a challenge in utilizing video data. It enables safe and advanced video analysis and utilization.
Even when cameras from different manufacturers are mixed, video data captured at multiple locations can be integrated and managed, enabling cross-location and cross-application video search and AI analysis.
Instead of transferring all video data to the cloud, the system identifies scenes where changes have occurred, such as the movement of people and vehicles, and the loading and unloading of goods, in addition to taking periodic snapshots. It then sends and stores only the data necessary for analysis in the cloud. This enables efficient analysis while keeping data volume down, achieving video utilization that balances cost and performance.
In the future, the system aims to integrate edge AI and cloud AI to enable unified analysis and utilization of accumulated video data and real-time video. Furthermore, by reflecting the analysis results in the control of equipment and robots, the system aims to merge cyberspace and physical space, realizing a physical AI that integrates recognition, judgment, and execution.
According to NTT docomo Business’s estimates, there are approximately 6 million surveillance cameras in Japan. Of these, 80% (approximately 4.8 million) are not network-connected, being used only at specific factory locations. This means that, in effect, data utilization such as video analysis is not being performed.
NTT docomo Business views this unused, dormant data as a valuable asset and promotes its video AI platform service, “SIGN VAaaS,” with the concept of transforming it into business value.
