Shimadzu Business Systems (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City) has released its “AI Sakura Forecast,” a forecast of cherry blossom bloom and full bloom for 2026.
Using its proprietary AI, the company predicts daily bloom and full bloom dates for Somei Yoshino cherry trees at approximately 1,000 cherry blossom viewing spots in every prefecture (excluding Amami and Okinawa), and provides the latest information for free on the smartphone app “Otenki JAPAN.”
According to the AI ​​forecast, many areas in northern Japan will see earlier-than-average blooms, with Aomori and Akita expected to bloom about a week earlier than normal. In other regions, most areas are expected to see roughly average blooms.
Cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in Sendai on April 7th (one day earlier than average), Tokyo on March 21st (three days earlier than average), Nagoya on March 27th (three days later than average), Osaka on March 28th (one day later than average), and Fukuoka on March 24th (two days later than average), with Kumamoto and Saga expected to bloom earliest on March 20th.
