Yamato Transport revamps its drive recorders for delivery and collection vehicles, detecting drowsiness through facial movements.

Starting in October, Yamato Transport will be updating the drive recorders installed in approximately 46,000 delivery and collection vehicles nationwide.
Driving footage can now be viewed at any time on a tablet device, and the day’s driving performance is visualized in a radar chart in the driving log.
By reviewing the footage and radar chart during post-shift roll calls, sales drivers can identify their own driving characteristics and areas for improvement, applying them to safer driving practices.
For example, if sudden acceleration or braking is detected, an audio alert is issued, and driving footage is automatically uploaded to the cloud and recorded in the driving log.
The outward-facing camera recognizes speed signs and stop signs, detecting speeding and failure to stop. Safe driving behaviors, such as “stop points” indicating proper stopping, can also be confirmed in the driving log. The inward-facing camera detects suspected drowsiness based on the sales driver’s facial movements.
In addition to automatically uploading footage of driving when specified actions occur, it can also be viewed on a tablet or other device at any time by specifying the date, time, and location based on the driving trajectory.
By being able to view driving footage on a tablet at any time, managers can provide more timely safety training. Digitizing daily driving logs also reduces the burden of storage work.
