Real-time Translation Demonstration in Toyama NTT docomo business and Pixie Dust Technologies

NTT docomo business and Pixie Dust Technologies conducted a demonstration experiment of a real-time translation solution for foreign tourists attending the “Owara Kaze no Bon” festival, held in Yaomachi, Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. The experiment aims to improve the efficiency and satisfaction of inbound tourism at large-scale regional events.
Specifically, the project utilized the “VUEVO Display,” a real-time subtitle and translation display developed and provided by Pixie Dust Technologies, to display translated subtitles at a special tourist information center. Using a high-performance sound-collecting microphone developed by Pixie Dust Technologies, a smartphone app, and NTT Docomo Business’s “5G Wide” technology, the system translates words spoken into the microphone in real time. A transparent display displays the spoken words to the speaker and the translated results to the other party. Supporting over 100 languages, the system requires minimal installation space. It is easy to use without any complicated operations, so anyone can intuitively deal with foreign tourists.
