OKI opens research and development center in Berlin

OKI established the research and development center “OKI Berlin Lab” in Berlin, Germany on June 1st. The establishment of this new center is based on OKI’s “technology strategy” and aims to strengthen photonics technology, one of its core technologies, to the world’s top level while promoting social implementation globally.
Photonics technology will be strengthened through joint research with leading research institutes in the EU, mainly in Germany, where photonics technology and its commercialization and social implementation are progressing. This will accelerate the improvement of performance and functionality of edge devices such as optical fiber sensors and small laser vibrometers, which have been the focus of OKI’s research and development so far.
In addition, by collaborating with EU optical technology clusters and opto-mechatronics-related companies, OKI will promote technological complementarity and establish technological superiority through social implementation in fields such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and healthcare.
Through this activity, OKI will verify the value of its research and development results in the EU and then deploy them globally to APAC and other regions.
The new base will be established within an incubation facility in Berlin, and will be staffed by researchers who will carry out joint research with external research institutes, and technology marketers who will promote the social implementation of opto-mechatronics technology. It will also have a showroom to introduce OKI’s latest technology, providing visitors with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the technology.
