NTT e-Sports High School opens in Chiba City, first class of students enrolls

NTT e-Sports has opened a correspondence support school, “NTT e-Sports High School,” in Chiba City (Next Site Chiba Building, 2nd floor) that develops the ability to play an active role in society through e-sports, and held an entrance ceremony for the first class (19 students) on Sunday, April 20th.
The school has four features. The first is that it offers an e-sports curriculum. Students can learn teamwork and leadership through e-sports. The second is learning digital skills. Students can learn digital skills in a fun way using e-sports as a gateway. The third is support for studies. In cooperation with Chuo High School, a correspondence support school, it supports English, math, Japanese, science, and social studies. The fourth is support for continuing on to higher education and finding a job. The school offers work experience within the NTT Group, as well as support for finding employment and continuing on to higher education using the NTT Group network.
The classrooms are equipped with large 250-inch LED monitors. These monitors are used for lessons in e-sports and video editing. Each student is also provided with a gaming PC, and the school is equipped with a Galleria from Third Wave, a computer that is popular among middle and high school students.

At the entrance ceremony, the school’s principal, NTT e-Sports President Motoharu Harada, gave a speech saying, “I want you to cherish your desire to do this and to become a certain someone. I want you to take the first step to make your dream come true. This school is here to help everyone take on challenges, so if you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to come to us.”
Mayor Kamiya Shunichi of Chiba took the stage to give a congratulatory speech, saying, “This school has an excellent program that allows students to gradually acquire digital skills through a new form of learning called e-sports. I would like to express my gratitude to  NTT East Group for opening a place of learning in the center of Chiba. I would like to express my respect for the fact that NTT East Group has been working hard to solve local issues by utilizing advanced technologies such as communications infrastructure, and is promoting the creation of new value by supporting the growth of young people.”
Chiba Kogyo Bank Chairman Aoyagi Shunichi said, “This is a great opportunity to acquire skills that are needed in society, such as teamwork, problem-solving, and logical thinking. These skills will be valuable weapons for you to play an active role in the local community and industry in the future.”
NTT East Executive Vice President Toshimasa Kumagai said, “The government and companies are promoting digital transformation to address the labor shortage caused by the declining birthrate and aging population and to improve market competitiveness. However, compared to other countries, Japan has a severe shortage of digital talent, and according to estimates by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, there is a predicted shortage of up to 800,000 digital talent by 2030. Developing digital talent is an important and urgent issue in Japan. Against this background, NTT eSports High School is one of the few schools that focuses on developing digital skills that can be used in society. NTT East Group will support them with all its might.”
