NTT held a citizen participation workshop, “Conference Singularity – Thinking about the future of Omuta with AI,” in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Thursday the 17th, where residents and AI jointly discuss local issues using AI Constellation, which aims to obtain answers from diverse perspectives through discussions between AIs.

AI Constellation is a concept advocated by NTT. It is based on the idea of ​​solving social problems with the collective intelligence of various LLMs with expertise and individuality, rather than relying on a single huge LLM for large-scale language models (LLMs), which are essential for AI.

In the workshop, the AI ​​Constellation will be applied to discussions between citizens to verify whether it is actually effective in generating opinions from diverse perspectives.

Specifically, local stakeholders such as Omuta City experts and resident representatives will discuss local issues together with AI. We will verify whether the involvement of AI can deepen the discussion among participants.
The topic of the discussion is related to local issues such as support for small and medium-sized enterprises and nursing care prevention.
First, multiple AIs discussed with each other, and the residents who participated discussed the content of the discussion.
Next, based on the discussion between the AI ​​and the participants, the AIs discussed with each other again, and then the participants discussed with each other. After that, they summarized the whole.

Yuki Shiroma of NTT Computer & Data Science Laboratories said, “AI Constellation provides various AI models and rules as an environment, so that the AIs can discuss and correct each other. In the workshop, we prepared AIs with various positions, and each AI came up with an idea. In the future, we would like to dynamically intervene in the discussion as a facilitator, guide the discussion between the panelist AIs who express their opinions, and promote discussion of difficult issues that differ depending on the position. As an effect of introducing AI that has never been done before, it will be applied to various fields.”
As mentioned above, the purpose of AI Constellation is to combine various AI models and foster collective intelligence. Therefore, the workshop was not limited to NTT’s Tsuzumi, but also used other LLMs suitable for the use cases.
