Recreation with generative AI, old photos made into animations at elderly care facilities NTT East Tokyo North
NTT East Tokyo North, in cooperation with Rikkyo University Graduate School, Toshima Ward, Toshima Ward Social Welfare Foundation, and Frontier Social Welfare Foundation, implemented recreational activities using generative AI and other technologies at the Respect for the Aged Day celebration held at Frontier Ikebukuro Honcho-no-Sato.
During the recreational activities, generative AI and other technologies were used to colorize and increase the resolution of old photos, and to turn the images into animations.
The recreational participants made comments such as “It brings back memories,” “I went there a long time ago, and it was like this back then,” and “I wonder what it’s like now, and next time I’d like to see the scenery now,” making it a harmonious event.
NTT East, Rikkyo University, Frontier, Toshima Ward, and Toshima Ward Social Welfare Foundation have been working together with industry, academia, and government since 2019 to consider AI related to nursing care and welfare, and have launched the “Nursing Care AI Project” with the aim of developing and implementing it in society.
This year, we will be rolling out initiatives that utilize AI. As the first step, we implemented recreational activities using AI at a special nursing home’s Respect for the Aged Day celebration event, with the aim of stimulating communication between residents, their families, and staff.
