IBM and Wimbledon to focus on digital experience for tennis viewing
IBM and the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which hosts Wimbledon, will incorporate new features to improve Wimbledon’s digital experience.
IBM’s generative AI will be used to leverage match data to provide fans with up-to-date information on players progressing through the championship.
Pre- and post-match player information will be displayed along with AI-generated player stories and analysis. The player cards will be personalized based on fan preferences, location and other data, and will be displayed in order of favorite players.
Pre-match content will include player performance analysis and winning predictions, while post-match content will include key match statistics and highlights.
This year, Wimbledon will use generative AI to provide a wider range of match coverage than ever before, including wheelchair events.
A survey by IBM and Morning Consult revealed that 55% of tennis fans worldwide believe that AI has a positive impact on sports. When it comes to using AI, respondents place importance on “real-time updates (36%),” “personalized content (31%),” and “provision of unique insights (30%)”.
