Reducing the manpower and burden of transport work Mitsubishi Electric’s transport robot for hospitals “MELDY”
Mitsubishi Electric is promoting the transport robot ”MELDY” for hospitals. Since it transports cargo by autonomous running, it reduces the manpower and burden required for transport work.
It’s also easy to operate. All users need to do is call up MELDY on their tablet terminal and set their destination.
The design reflects the opinions of the medical field; for example, the cart uses a tray commonly used in hospitals. It also uses high-precision sensors to automatically avoid collisions with obstacles.
It is equipped with features such as a speaker that alerts people around you and a light that indicates the direction of travel, enabling safe autonomous driving even in areas where people come and go.
For example, when transporting drugs from a drug room to a staff station, the robot is first called up using a tablet and the destination is set. Select the delivery destination on the robot screen and store the package in the locker. While the robot is running, it plays a melody to notify its surroundings of its presence. When turning a corner, an audio warning is sent out. Alerts are sent periodically to a tablet device placed before the robot arrives and until the robot completes the pick-up.
When receiving luggage, please hold up your employee ID card. When you press the start move button on the robot’s screen, the robot waits until the next scheduled delivery.
The company is also currently developing an injection drug cart delivery robot.
If this is realized, the robot will automatically transport the injection cart that is dispensed from the automatic injection drug dispensing system (ampule picker).
By linking with elevators and access control systems, it will be possible to autonomously move vertically and horizontally within the facility.
