Real-time broadcast on APN NTT East
NTT East will realize the All Photonics Network (APN) in IOWN at the “Tokyu Silvester Concert 2023-2024” to be held at Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo from December 31st to January 1st. The next-generation communication service, APN IOWN1/0, will be used to connect the concert venue and the broadcast station, and efforts will be made to broadcast the relayed video in real time on terrestrial and BS (HD/4K) broadcasts.
This will be the world’s first attempt at live broadcasting on terrestrial/BS (HD/4K) broadcasting using APN.
After editing the video shot with multiple 4K cameras at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, it is uncompressed into a format compliant with SMPTE ST 2110, which is one of the industry standards for transmitting such signals over a network. It is converted as is and relayed in real time to TV Tokyo in Roppongi, Minato-ku using APN IOWN1.0. Then, using the transmitted uncompressed video signal, it will be broadcast live on TV Tokyo and BS TV Tokyo.
NTT East plans to continue considering ways to support operations such as remote live broadcasting and remote production by utilizing the characteristics of APN IOWN1/0, such as large capacity, low latency, and zero fluctuation.
