NTT Data Inc. and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, are developing a solution that utilizes Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) technology, which allows access control according to user attributes, at UTS’s joint innovation facility “UTS Vault.” I agreed to commercial use.
UTS Vault is a facility in Australia where the public and private sectors conduct joint research on cybersecurity-related technologies. The data handled includes highly confidential data. Utilizing ABE enables robust and detailed disclosure of UTS Vault data according to user attributes.
Both parties will utilize this solution to contribute to the promotion of innovation in UTS Vault and promote both convenience through free data flow and safe and secure data management in a digital society.
ABE is a technology that simultaneously realizes encryption and access control that enables detailed disclosure based on user and data attributes in addition to data encryption. By embedding an access control mechanism into data as a code using ABE, we provide a mechanism that allows access to encrypted data based on user attributes and conditions.
When performing the same thing as ABE using a conventional encryption method, it is necessary to perform disclosure processing on the entire data, extract the attribute information necessary for the user, and then perform processing to make the entire data non-disclosure again. However, ABE allows only the necessary attribute information to be disclosed from the entire data that is not disclosed from the beginning, reducing the data processing steps by up to 3 times compared to implementation using the conventional method. It can be shortened to 1/2.
