Application of surveillance radar for ADAS to traffic measurement Furukawa Electric

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. has developed a traffic counter for measuring traffic volume by applying the technology of perimeter monitoring radar mass-produced as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
This traffic counter measures the number of passing vehicles by detecting and tracking the position, moving direction, and moving speed of moving objects for a certain period of time. Therefore, it is designed to be less susceptible to erroneous detection factors such as noise and flying objects. It can also detect the size of moving objects and distinguish between large and small vehicles.
Since this traffic counter detects vehicles using radio waves, it is not affected by changes in the amount of sunlight depending on the time and place, such as daytime, nighttime, and backlight. Another feature of quasi-millimeter waves is that they are less susceptible to weather conditions such as snow, rain, and fog, so stable detection can be expected in a variety of outdoor environments.
