Virtual tour inside the “Subaru Telescope” facility NAOJ

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) has adopted Marterport’s digital twin solution and announced that it has realized a virtual tour by digitizing the inside of the “Subaru Telescope” facility located at the summit of Mauna Kea (approximately 4200 meters above sea level) on the island of Hawaii, USA.
The Subaru Telescope is one of the world’s leading reflecting telescopes, equipped with a camera capable of photographing an epoch-making wide field of view in addition to the world’s highest level of visual acuity with its 8.2-meter-diameter primary mirror. The combination of a wide variety of observational instruments has resulted in many remarkable astronomical discoveries.
The Subaru Telescope was built by Japan and is also a “common property of the people” maintained by taxes.
NAOJ will use virtual tours to disseminate the appeal of astronomy by disclosing the status of its activities in order to foster researchers who will lead the next generation.
