A survey of e-mail authentication for Japanese credit cards Proofpoint
Proofpoint Japan conducted a survey of e-mail authentication on credit cards in Japan.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of the National Police Agency have introduced domain authentication technology (DMARC) to credit card companies, etc., in view of the increasing number of phishing damages that cause unauthorized use of credit card numbers. We are requesting the strengthening of anti-phishing measures.
DMARC authentication is an effective countermeasure against domain spoofing, and can automatically reject, quarantine, or monitor spoofed emails based on the settings set by the spoofed company.
According to a survey by Proofpoint, only 22% of Japanese credit card companies have adopted DMARC authentication, and consumers, business partners, and their own employees may be subjected to email fraud spoofing credit card companies. It turned out to be sexual.
According to the company, in Europe and the United States, DMARC is being introduced as a basic supply chain risk countermeasure. This is because governments around the world recommend the introduction of DMARC or make it a mandatory requirement.
With the emergence of fraudulent e-mails written in sophisticated Japanese using generated AI, the use of DMARC will have a significant security effect, as e-mails spoofing the domains of credit card companies will not be delivered to Japanese citizens. In addition, by reducing the number of e-mails impersonating the domain, the number of inquiries about fraudulent e-mails will decrease sharply, which will lead to a secondary effect of reducing the burden on the contact point.
