Unification of damage level judgment of product exterior cardboard Kirin, Coca-Cola, Suntory, Seven-Eleven and Fujitsu
Kirin Beverage, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan, Suntory Beverage & Food, Seven-Eleven Japan and Fujitsu have jointly demonstrated the use of an AI system developed by Fujitsu to unify the level of damage to cardboard packaging.
In the soft drink industry and the distribution industry, if the cardboard used as transportation material is slightly scratched, wrinkled, or swollen during the transportation and storage of the product, regardless of the quality of the contents, the appearance of the cardboard will determine whether or not the product can be delivered. Judgments are made visually for each company’s warehouse.
Since there is no common standard for determining whether or not the product can be delivered to the beverage maker or the distributor, there is variation in the determination. As a result, products that do not have quality problems are returned or discarded, and food loss has become an issue.
In this demonstration experiment, beverage manufacturers and distributors will share a mechanism for making objective judgments using an AI system, with the aim of unifying damage level judgments.
