Furukawa Electric in cooperation with CLV Development LLC, has submitted an AiP to Nippon Kaiji Kyokai regarding a new cable-laying ship that is being developed under the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)’s Green Innovation Fund Project, “CLV Development Project.”
Offshore wind power generation was introduced mainly in Europe. On the other hand, it is expected to grow in Japan and Asia through 2050.
Expectations for floating wind turbines are particularly high in areas around Japan, where there are many steep seafloor topography.
The key to mass introduction of offshore wind power is the cost reduction of construction, operation and maintenance.
Against this background, Furukawa Electric has embarked on the development of its own CLV, which has advanced functions equal to or greater than those of the preceding European CLV, and which can ensure mobility even under the topographical and hydrological conditions of the waters surrounding Japan.
