NEC Predicts damage location and size of bridges and dams

NEC has developed a technology that enables the detection of changes in the position and size of damage to bridges and dams, and the prediction of progress.
This technology utilizes a digital twin that reproduces events in the real world in digital space, and builds a full-scale 3D model of a building in digital space. Specifically, 3D data (point cloud data) of buildings measured using LiDAR, which uses laser light to sense distance and shape, and past images taken from different positions and angles are collated and analyzed. By doing so, the time-series changes in the position and size of the damage are detected on the 3D model, and these are automatically recorded.
Furthermore, since it is possible to quantify the current degree of damage progression from past images and predict future changes over time based on trends in time-series changes, it can be useful, for example, in determining when to repair, as well as improving the efficiency of on-site inspection work. 
NEC has confirmed in advance verification that the location and size of damage can be detected with an error of a few centimeters.
