In Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s novels, the expression “not only” appears frequently. “The man was not only A, but also B.” Akutagawa writes extremely neat sentences by thoroughly trimming off unnecessary things. People and things consist of countless backgrounds and countless conditions. Even Akutagawa had no choice but to connect with “only” in order to show it accurately.
