Technical cooperation for commercialization of IP broadcasting solutionsFurukawa Electric and OKI

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. and OKI have agreed on a technical tie-up to commercialize an IP broadcasting solution that transmits television broadcasts in an all-IP format for CATV operators and telecommunications carriers. Aiming to start providing solutions in 2023, we have started developing solutions for commercialization.

Through this technical tie-up, Furukawa Electric will provide PON systems and IP-STBs. OKI enables system cooperation by providing an IP broadcast server “OKI MediaServer”. The two companies will build an IP broadcasting system that is efficient and includes ultra-high-definition image quality while curbing the capital investment of CATV operators and telecommunications carriers. We also plan to provide an IP-STB for each residence, which is necessary for receiving IP broadcasts.
The company also plans to participate in demonstration experiments conducted by CATV operators and telecommunications carriers to transmit television broadcasts including ultra-high-definition image quality using the IP system widely used on the Internet.
