About the survey work of the mural painting Mayumi Yamamoto(Buddhist painter,Cultural-property servicing techie )
I would like to introduce the content of the mural survey work.
As part of the survey work for the mural paintings, the first step is to take photographs. Since the inside of the ruins is narrow and it is not possible to take close-ups, the screen was subdivided and photographed, resulting in a huge amount of photographs. Next, he traces the mural, applying a huge transparent film that has been stitched together to the canvas and using a brush to transfer the outline with black ink. Such recording allows us to record the exact size, shape and details.
These efforts were featured in a documentary broadcast by Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, in which a CG was created by creating a scaled-down colored reconstruction of the mural and synthesizing it with 3D data of the ruins. Unfortunately, I hear that the murals in the area are deteriorating. Feeling the difficulty of preserving it under such harsh conditions, I hope that these records will at least remain as a reminder of what it looked like when it was first excavated.
