Utilizes Power Saving Enabler to reduce power consumption of virtualized base stations by up to 46% NTT
Using the Power Saving Enabler, NTT has demonstrated that the power consumption of software-configured virtualized base stations can be reduced by up to 46% in an environment close to actual commercial networks.
This power-saving technology is scheduled to be deployed globally by being installed in vendor virtualization base stations.
This technology is based on the concept of controlling software processing so that it is processed with the minimum necessary computing resources according to the load. It achieves great power saving effect at low load.
The power saving enabler, which is a software technology, can be combined with the “photonics convergence technology”, “all-photonics network (APN)”, and “ultra-powerful and general-purpose white box” that are being researched and developed to realize the IOWN concept. A power saving effect can be obtained.
NTT plans to license this power-saving technology, whose effectiveness has been confirmed in demonstration experiments, to vendors who wish to use it.
