Developing “Virtual Osaka” for the Expo NTT DATA’s Metaverse
On October 26 (Wednesday), NTT DATA held a briefing session on the Metaverse, introducing the latest trends in the Metaverse and the company’s initiatives.
Currently, there are various definitions of the Metaverse, but basically it can be established if there is XR technology. In particular, the XR device will be the key in the future. Currently, it is widely used in games, but it is said that it will be used in SNS and work in the near future.
Mr. Tatsuji Yamada, Senior Specialist at the Innovation Center of the company’s Technology Development Headquarters, said, “It’s still possible to use it for business, but it’s difficult to use it all day. It’s hard to read, and wearing a device makes your neck tired. There are only so many problems. I expect that eventually, as long as you have VR goggles, you will be able to work in a rich environment anytime, anywhere”.
In fact, US Meta is promoting its use in SNS and business, and has in mind the spread of it as a general-purpose computer device.
NTT DATA has been working on the Metaverse since its inception, and is currently building a “virtual Osaka” where visitors can simulate sightseeing in Osaka in preparation for the Osaka-Kansai Expo in 2025. In addition, we are promoting a project called “AMLAD Metaverse Initiative” as part of the digitization archive department project “AMLAD.”
Asahi Hasebe, sales and development manager of NTT DATA’s digital archive business department “AMLAD” said, “We are thinking about new ways to show high-definition digital content and data. We create and publish digital content from the perspective of NFT and blockchain. We are also promoting efforts to improve protection mechanisms, distribution and monetization mechanisms.”
For example, we aim to create an art museum in a virtual space and exhibit a group of works that would never be displayed in a real art museum, aiming for an unprecedented viewing experience.
