Children Fascinated by Rotary-Dial Phones Machida Telecommunication Exhibits at Katsushika Ward Industry Fair
The 42nd Katsushika Ward Industry Fair—featuring sectors in industry, commerce, and tourism—was held over three days, from Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, at Techno Plaza Katsushika (Kameari, Tokyo). The fair serves as a showcase for the diverse appeal of Katsushika Ward’s industrial, commercial, tourism, agricultural, and traditional craft sectors. This year’s theme, “Katsushika: A Treasure Chest Weaving the Future,” highlighted the “treasures” passed down through generations in the ward—ranging from manufacturing expertise and traditional craftsmanship to locally grown agricultural produce.
Continuing its participation from 2024, Machida Telecommunication hosted a booth featuring a “Rotary-Dial Phone Experience Corner,” where visitors could pick up the handsets and make calls. The corner proved a major hit with children, who showed great curiosity as they picked up the receivers and tried making calls.
Hitoshi Hamada, General Manager of Machida Telecommunication’s Solutions Sales Department, noted, “Since rotary-dial phones are no longer found in typical households, they appear fresh and novel to children. Many are particularly intrigued by their unique shape.”

This marks the third time the company has exhibited at the Katsushika Ward Industry Fair. The company participates both to promote its own services and to contribute to the revitalization of Katsushika Ward, where it is based. In the past, participation in the fair has even led to new business opportunities.
“The children who visit the fair live here in Katsushika Ward,” says Hamada. “I hope this serves as an opportunity for them to learn that a company like ours—specializing in telecommunications infrastructure—exists right here in their ward, and perhaps sparks an interest in the field of telecommunications.”
