NARO (National Agriculture and Food Research Organization), NTT AgriTechnology, Niinuma (Ishinomaki City; President Toshihide Niinuma), and NetChart (Yokohama City; President Kazuhiro Kusumoto)—along with Hanoi-based NIINUMA TOMOFARM—held a project report meeting and harvest festival in Dien Bien Province, Vietnam. The event marked the conclusion of a demonstration project aimed at establishing a smart agriculture management model that promotes high-profit farming operations through remote support.
As part of this project, smart greenhouses were constructed on the farmland of the Dien Bien Province Agricultural Extension Center and local producers to cultivate Japanese-variety fruit tomatoes.
Environmental data from the smart greenhouses was transmitted to NTT AgriTechnology’s remote farming support system via NetChart’s “P3EG” (a managed edge gateway service for IoT). NIINUMA TOMOFARM continuously monitored cultivation-related data and, together with NARO, provided cultivation guidance to local producers.
Additionally, environmental control settings—discussed and determined by NARO, NIINUMA TOMOFARM, and the local producers—were remotely applied to the smart greenhouses in Vietnam through the remote farming support system and P3EG.
These initiatives led to the successful cultivation and harvest of Japanese-variety fruit tomatoes in Dien Bien Province. The harvested produce was purchased and sold by NIINUMA TOMOFARM, thereby realizing a smart agriculture management model.
