NTT Limited , Sumitomo Corporation, and JA Mitsui Leasing have established a new company, “I-AM NW (Intra-Asia Marine Networks Co., Ltd.),” to construct and operate the large-scale submarine communications cable “I-AM Cable” connecting Japan with Malaysia and Singapore.
The project, estimated to cost approximately 150 billion yen, is being promoted as a core project supporting Asia’s digital infrastructure. Aiming to reinforce Japan’s role as a data hub, the cable will be landed in three prefectures: Chiba, Mie, and Fukuoka. By securing communications routes from three landing stations in Japan to Malaysia and Singapore, the cable will maintain high resilience against natural disasters off the coast of Japan. Furthermore, by remotely adjusting the communications wavelength bands for each route using a wavelength selective switch (WSS), the cable can flexibly respond to changes in customer business needs and communications traffic demands.
