Strengthening crime prevention with behavioral recognition AI NTT East and Asilla

NTT East, under license from Asilla, will roll out the “Giga Raku Camera Video Analysis Option MIMAMORI AI,” which uses cloud-based AI to automatically detect abnormalities in security camera footage.
In addition to the video recording function of the Gigaraku Camera, it will use the “behavior recognition AI,” a skeletal estimation method that can analyze people’s postures and movements, to perform video analysis in real time, making it possible to detect and notify suspicious or abnormal behavior.
All you need to do is install the “Giga Raku Camera” on-site; no servers or other equipment are required. Detection data is managed on the cloud, making it possible to monitor remotely and manage multiple locations centrally.
Kenichi Watanabe, head of the Wireless & IoT Business Department at NTT East said, “About 150,000 Gigaraku cameras have already been installed and are being used for video confirmation, monitoring, and recording. However, the uses of cameras have changed in recent years. Until now, they were mainly used to review images in emergencies or for deterrent purposes, but with labor shortages and a worsening sense of public safety, it is becoming necessary to use cameras like sensors to detect emergencies in real time and take action.”
MIMAMORI AI will notify the person in charge by email based on the information detected by the AI. This will prevent problems from occurring. During fiscal year 2013, the company plans to further enhance its functions, such as by adding an automatic voice alert function and linking it to patrol lights that notify of emergencies.
Its strength is that it can be introduced with just one camera. It is expected that the main usage scenarios will be unmanned stores such as coin laundries and gyms. Other areas under consideration include areas around escalators in commercial facilities, parks, hospitals, and nursing homes.
Ajira’s behavioral recognition AI identifies people from video, estimates their posture, and judges what they are doing.

Asilla holds 24 patents related to posture estimation, and boasts world-class technological capabilities in this field.
Asilla’s president, Tsuyoshi Onoue, said, “Our products are being introduced as AI security in large facilities. On the other hand, it is difficult for small and medium-sized facilities to penetrate. There is a need, but many people want to start with one camera. Our products are for large-scale use, so we prepare a server and install it on-site, so it was difficult to start with one camera”.
By collaborating with NTT East and placing the company’s AI on the cloud, it has become possible to respond with just one camera. This will allow it to appeal to small and medium-sized facilities, including unmanned stores.
Prices start from 14,850 yen per month for one Gigaraku camera.
NTT docomo Ventures, the CVC of the NTT Group, has invested in Asilla to accelerate the solution of social issues by combining communication technology and video analysis AI.
