IOWN Solutions for MWC NTT

NTT’s April-December 2012 financial results showed operating revenue of 10.497 trillion yen (332.9 billion yen increase from the previous term), and operating profit of 1.3992 trillion yen (87 billion yen decrease from the previous term). Revenues increased but profits decreased.
Operating revenues increased domestically and overseas in the NTT Data Group, and NTT Docomo’s smart life business increased, but profits decreased due to a decrease in communication service revenues in mobile and fixed lines, measures to strengthen Docomo’s customer base, and the slimming down of non-core assets implemented in the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, the net increase in the number of optical fiber services increased compared to the previous term due to strengthened sales. The 10 gigabit plan and the all-in-one plan for condominiums were strong.
NTT East and West’s revenues and profits were largely as expected, and it is expected that this fiscal year will be the bottom. Currently, they are working on a fundamental review of their cost structure, including the selection and concentration of businesses and operational reforms, in order to achieve medium-term growth. NTT DoCoMo’s MNP is also showing results.
NTT President Akira Shimada commented, “It is difficult to achieve the annual plan for this fiscal year, but with the efforts of each company, we would like to make the maximum recovery.” He added, “We would like to make a plan that will bring the overall figure up next fiscal year, with this fiscal year as the bottom. NTT Data is doing well, NTT Urban Solutions’ data center engineering is expanding, and NTT Anode Energy’s system is also in place.”
As part of its efforts to revitalize local areas and develop towns, the NTT Group will open new hotels, parks, and cultural facilities in Osaka and Kobe in time for the Osaka-Kansai Expo to be held in May. It also plans to operate stadiums and arenas in various locations.
In terms of global activities, the “NTT DATA Leadership Event” will be held in India on Monday, March 17th. This event will be held in preparation for the IOWN APN connection at the Mumbai data center and the start of connection with the MIST undersea cable between India, Singapore and Malaysia.
The NTT Group will expand its data centers in India and further strengthen its data center business, which has the largest market share in India.
Currently, the NTT Group operates 21 data centers in India. 13 of these are concentrated in Mumbai. There are also three in Bangalore, three in Chennai and two in Delhi. Over the next few years, six will be added to Mumbai, and one each in Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
When all is completed, there will be 30 data centers. 19 of these will be built in Mumbai. The Mumbai data center will be connected with an APN so that it can be operated as one large data center. It will be connected to MIST in the summer.
President Shimada said, “India is a very important country, and Mumbai will be the core of our business in India. We are not only involved in data centers, but also in various other businesses such as SI business. We have about 40,000 employees in India.”
We will exhibit at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to be held in Barcelona from Monday, March 3rd. We plan to exhibit the NTT Group’s space business strategy and network solutions that utilize generative AI. We also plan to exhibit and hold sessions on IOWN solutions as part of the IOWN Global Forum.
