NTT East Miyagi Division, NTT ExC Partner, and Kirincho will hold a disaster prevention training course at Kibotcha, a disaster prevention experience facility built by renovating an elementary school damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, with the support of Higashimatsushima City.
This initiative is being held in Higashimatsushima City, a disaster-stricken area, 13 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, when the fading of memories of the damage and the passing on of knowledge are issues.
It is expected that the course will provide an opportunity for people who are seeking to obtain a disaster prevention qualification as part of their work to visit the disaster-stricken area, and will also increase the effectiveness of the training on disaster prevention through the scars of the disaster and the stories of storytellers on site.
By recruiting participants from all over the country, it will create an opportunity for people to visit Higashimatsushima City, a disaster-stricken area, and contribute to revitalizing the region. This will be the second time, following last year, that disaster prevention training will be held at Kibotcha, a facility damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake.
This time, the lunch break on the second day of the training will be extended to include optional content such as a tour of the damaged school building led by a storyteller who is a Kiboccha staff member and a stroll around the surrounding area.
A disaster prevention specialist is a qualification awarded by the NPO Japan Disaster Prevention Specialist Organization to “people who have acquired knowledge and practical skills related to disaster prevention and can become disaster prevention leaders”.
