GE Healthcare Japan adopts NTT Com’s video service for remote training service for medical professionals
GE Healthcare Japan announced that it has adopted NTT Communications’ (NTT Com) video distribution service “Smart vLive” for GE Healthcare’s remote training service for ultrasound imaging diagnosis for medical professionals.
This service uses “Smart vLive,” which allows low-latency, multi-angle video distribution, to remotely connect instructors who are ultrasound diagnostic experts with participants in remote locations and provide ultrasound imaging diagnosis training.
The service will be provided in the Hokkaido area and will be gradually expanded nationwide within this fiscal year.
Ultrasound diagnostic equipment is being increasingly used in the field of imaging diagnosis because it does not pose a risk of radiation exposure, is non-invasive, and causes little pain to patients. However, a challenge is that it is highly operator-dependent, and in order to achieve higher quality medical care, it has been necessary to provide high-quality training that eliminates the variation in skills between operators.
This service was developed due to the fact that a shortage of manpower in the medical industry has made it difficult for experienced surgeons in hospitals to train new surgeons, and that learning opportunities themselves are limited in remote areas such as remote islands and mountainous regions.
