NTT Communications (NTT Com) and NTT docomo will provide an on-demand public transportation system for the ”Iwanuma AI Shared Bus”, which will begin operation in Iwanuma City, Miyagi Prefecture from Tuesday the 12th.
This is the first time for a local government in Miyagi Prefecture to launch a full-scale operation of an on-demand public transportation system that utilizes AI.
”Iwanuma AI Shared Bus” is a small bus that does not have a route or timetable, but uses AI to determine the optimal route based on the user’s reservation status, and rides with other users to reach their destination.
The trains run between the necessary pick-up and drop-off points in the order that most efficiently meets users’ travel needs, enabling efficient operation. Users can request rides not only by phone but also through a smartphone app.
