Building a mass production system for “Tamakai” using completely closed circulation land-based aquaculture using ICT “Fisheries Dream Future Project” by NTT East and NTT West
Since December 2022, Tsuno Town in Miyazaki Prefecture, Okayama University of Science, NTT East, and NTT West have been implementing an initiative to create a new fisheries industry in Tsuno Town as part of ” Fisheries Dream Future Project”. Starting in March of last year, they conducted a nine-month trial breeding of Kuetama and Tamakai at a demonstration aquaculture plant using ICT and suitable environmental water, and succeeded in the world’s first completely closed circulation land-based aquaculture trial. In the future, they will proceed with building a full-scale mass production system for “Tamakai,” which has confirmed a high survival rate and growth rate.
They also plan to use the acquired data to automatically control the growing environment in a data-driven manner and to build a higher-level real-time remote guidance system.
Based on the results of this project, efforts will be made to utilize the processing plant scheduled to be completed this spring, commercialize and sell new Tsuno specialty products, and create new local brands.
