Digitized Hokusai works on display at Terminal 2 to appeal to overseas tourists Exhibition held by Narita Airport, NTT East Chiba, and others
Narita International Airport (NAA), NTT East Chiba, NTT ArtTechnology, and Greenport Agency have created a huge space (approximately 57 meters long and approximately 12 meters wide) on the 3rd floor (post-departure area) of Narita Airport Terminal 2 Satellite. ), an exhibition will be held until February 13th utilizing high-definition digital data of”Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji” owned by the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum and ”Phoenix” painted on the ceiling of the main hall of Gansho-in Temple in Obuse Town, Nagano Prefecture.
Regarding this initiative, Yoshiki Kitagawa, Manager of NAA’s CS/ES Promotion Department, said, ”We want to encourage overseas customers who have visited Japan to say, ”I want to come to Japan again,” or ”Next time, I would like to visit the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum and Obuse Town”. We are holding this event with the hope that people will feel like, ‘I want to go there.’
NTT East and NTT ArtTechnology are promoting “distributed digital museum concept” that utilizes ICT, and as part of this, they are developing projects such as the “Digital x Hokusai” project in collaboration with Art Techne, which has advanced digitalization technology.
Katsushika Hokusai’s works are very popular overseas, and many tourists leaving the country stopped in front of the works on display.
Mr. Kitagawa says, ”This exhibition is for a limited time.We will consider future plans while looking at customer feedback”.
